This project involved refreshing the brand identity and designing a user-friendly mobile app for "Are You My Human?", an existing local dog adoption lounge in Bellingham, Washington. The aim was to enhance the dog adoption experience, and facilitate easy adoption by allowing users to browse dogs available for adoption, learn about the lounge and its employees, and schedule appointments.

Introduction

"Are You My Human?" is a dog adoption lounge that helps people connect with rescue dogs in a no-pressure environment. The goal was to refresh the brand identity with new colors and create a simple, intuitive mobile app that enhances the user experience and makes adoption easier.

Role: Lead UX Designer working independently.

Duration: 5 weeks

Problem Statement

Challenges:

  • The existing website was not user-friendly or visually appealing.
  • Difficulty in finding information about dogs available for adoption.
  • Complicated process for scheduling appointments.
  • Uninviting brand colors and overall aesthetic.

  • Make scheduling appointments more intuitive.

Research

Methods:

Findings:

  • Users found the website difficult to navigate and visually unappealing.
  • A simpler, more intuitive layout was needed.
  • New brand colors (blue, cream, and brown) would create a warmer and more inviting feel.

Design Process

Ideation:

  • Brainstormed solutions for simplifying the user interface.
  • Decided to focus on three main pages: Home (list of dogs), Appointment Scheduling, and Information about the Lounge.

Wireframes:

  • Created low-fidelity wireframes to outline the basic layout and structure.

Prototypes:

  • Developed high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, highlighting the new brand colors and key functionalities.

Usability Testing

Testing Methods:

  • Conducted usability testing sessions with target users (friends, family, peers).

Feedback:

  • Positive feedback on the simplified layout and new color scheme.
  • Suggestions to make dog cards clickable and add detailed pages for each dog.

Iterations:

  • Implemented clickable dog cards with detailed pages.
  • Refined the appointment scheduling interface to fix navigation issues.
